HERO
MOGG
The Hero table embodies a battle between softness and brutality, captured within a single piece of furniture. It is as if the table is torn between its gentler and harsher aspects. However, it also embodies a sense of equilibrium and materiality, with its four pillars supporting the tabletop at their tips.
The collection plays with perception, generating a dialogue between its different elements. The four square pillars project power and strength, yet they appear to melt under the weight of the tabletop, which seems to sink little by little as if its material were soft. Although the tabletop appears to be the softer, lighter element with all its curves and smooth edges, it suddenly seems to be the harder, heavier one. With its fully curved body, the tabletop resembles a sweet or a bar of soap more than a tabletop. Curved and straight lines interact endlessly with each other in this project.
There is a visual tension between the massive legs and the tabletop, as the tabletop appears to be barely held in place by the legs. This visual tension plays a significant role in the poetry of the collection. The table is almost like an upside-down boxing ring, embodying the idea of a struggle or battle between two opposing forces.
The name 'Hero' references the table's general dynamic, where the four legs seem to hold an imaginary trophy in a competition between softness and brutalism, which could represent the great divide and polarisation running through our societies today.
