BLOCCO SIDEBOARD
BONALDO
The Blocco collection draws inspiration from the concept of a large block of wood that
would have been lifted and placed on two supports, much like an archaeological artifact
or valuable item that is to be highlighted and showcased. You can almost picture
people lifting the block and setting it on its supports. Its name is a reference to the
overall silhouette of the project, and to those massive butcher's block that can
sometimes be found in kitchens and are called "blocco" in Italian.
It is a confrontation between two types of shapes, an opposition that creates a
discussion withing the piece. A strict minimalist element with straight edges that enters
in discussion with the softer yet massive rounded supports. These legs appear more like
pillars than anything else given their generous and sculptural shape.
Within the collection, the typology of the pieces and their functionality is defined by the
thickness and size of each rectangular block and by a few graphic lines that bring some
detailing and lightness to the pieces while always maintaining their monolithic
appearance.
The sideboard is by far the most massive and minimal piece of the whole collection. It is
available with two different heights of legs. Either very low or a more unexpected higher
version that virtually redefines the overall dynamic of the piece. The general proportions
of the sideboard are quite unique and make it stand out. Its special flaps doors are have
been designed to make it easy to use and open.
The collection is available in lacquered, and wood veneer finishes.
