BLOCCO DESK
BONALDO
The Blocco collection draws inspiration from the concept of a large block of wood that
would have been lifted and placed on two supports, much like an archaeological artifact
or valuable item that is to be highlighted and showcased. You can almost picture
people lifting the block and setting it on its supports. Its name is a reference to the
overall silhouette of the project, and to those massive butcher's block that can
sometimes be found in kitchens and are called "blocco" in Italian.
It is a confrontation between two types of shapes, an opposition that creates a
discussion withing the piece. A strict minimalist element with straight edges that enters
in discussion with the softer yet massive rounded supports. These legs appear more like
pillars than anything else given their generous and sculptural shape. The lines of the
drawers are placed at the center of each leg thus bringing a bit of lightness with these
graphic details while keeping the monolithic appearance of the block.
Within the collection, the typology of the pieces and their functionality is defined by the
thickness and size of each rectangular block. The slimmest one but also the one with
the biggest contrast between the legs and the table top is the personal desk. It's a very
graphic and sculptural with striking iconic proportions. Never-the-less it is meant to be
a functional piece with its three hidden push-open drawers that allow people to
discreetly store smaller objects like pens, paper blocks, chargers, tablets and laptops,
etc ...
It is meant as a personal space, but also as a desk that any one from the family can use
when needs be, whether it is for a quick email to write, for a work from home session, or
for the homework with the kids.
The collection is available in lacquered, and wood veneer finishes.
